The 2012 surprising deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto was negotiated under a tree, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has said.
In recent weeks, Ruto has been struggling to stamp authority in the populous Mt Kenya region after former Jubilee vice chair David Murathe claimed that there was no written agreement in the deal.
And on JKL show on Wednesday, Kabogo seemed to agree with Mr Murathe, revealing that there was no written agreement when the two came together to clinch presidency.
"There are no debts to be paid and William Ruto knows that. He has himself stated this before. I was there when Uhuru and William Ruto negotiated their deal.
"We were outside under a tree. There was no written agreement between them," Kabogo said, adding that Ruto should reach out directly to the voters from Mt Kenya.
Asked whether he can best Ruto should the two meet on ballot, Kabogo said 'it is possible' but has reservations on Raila Odinga, who he said he has a lot to learn from.
The DP and his team have been scheming on how to stamp authority ahead of 2022 campaigns despite the increasing rebellion from Mt Kenya.
Even though Uhuru previously maintained that he would support Ruto's bid, however remained silent on the matter ever since reconciling with opposition leader Raila Odinga.
