In a tweet on Saturday, Prof Kiyiapi said that the national carrier was on an upward trajectory but was suddenly plunged into loss-making to the tune of billions of shillings.

Decrying the sharp decline of his shares in the company, the former Moi University lecturer contended that the losses could have been brought about by either a faulty business model or sabotage.

"Investigations into KQ affairs are long overdue. An airline that was on an upward trajectory: Suddenly losses upon losses, year in year out. Either a woefully faulty business model or an act of sabotage. Whatever it is, we want to know. My few shares have steadily declined to zero!" Prof Ole Kiyiapi's tweet read.

The academician's strong words come in the wake of the revelations that KQ incurred a loss of over Sh8 billion.

Its bosses pinned the drastic reduction in the national carriers bottom line on a number of factors including forays into new international routes to the shift in the standards in financial reporting.

In a bid to revive the KQ fortunes, the government announced a renationalisation plan that has been cautiously welcomed by board chairman Michael Joseph.
