Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion has spoken for the first time over his de-registration from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
In a statement released to media houses on Saturday, Sossion says he is still eligible to remain at the helm of the union even after TSC announced his de-registration as a teacher.
He insisted the move by the commission to de-register him doesn’t affect his position in the KNUT. He faulted his rivals for attempting to use every tactic to send him away from the union.
Sossion also said that there have been false reports over his position in the union but promised to remain firm in his quest to retain the job.
“A lot of misinformation is being peddled about a (court) ruling with respect to my relationship with TSC on employment contract. The matter under contestation has been exclusively on the employment contract and no registration,” he stated, as quoted by Capital FM.
He said that there are several leaders who have retained their positions in different unions even after their employer ended their contracts.
In the recent past, a section of teachers has been pushing for the resignation of the KNUT boss.
According to the Public Officer Ethics Act, Sossion is holding the position unlawfully.
