Garissa University is among institutions of higher learning that are offering some courses illegally.
According to a Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service report, these institutions are offering courses that are not approved by the Commission for University Education (CUE).
Garissa University has eight unapproved courses that have 385 students who might end up having bogus degrees.
The courses that were heighted across several universities were Bachelor of Arts in community development, counselling psychology, development and policy studies, geography and political science.
Other art fields you need to check include economics, peace education, public administration and governance, Kiswahili and international relations.
For those of taking science courses you should confirm the legality of Bachelor of Science in botany, informatics and natural resource management, public health, biochemistry, applied statistics with computing, actuarial science and management and information. You are also advised to check human nutrition and dietetics.
Other universities that are affected include Tom Mboya University College that has 25 unapproved courses. University of Embu has six questionable courses while Kisii University has five affected courses.
The fate of affected students is not clear, as Commission for University Education (CUE) did not offer alternatives.
They risk losing school fees and time invested in these courses.
