Services at the Eldoret International Airport were on Wednesday paralysed for several hours following a strike by aviation workers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.
The JKIA workers were on strike over unfair staff hiring, poor remuneration and proposed takeover of the airport by the Kenya Airways (KQ).
The standoff lasted for over five hours.
Eldoret International Airport Managing Director Walter Agong confirmed the disruption but said normalcy had resumed.
"We had a delay of Jumbo Jet which we expected to come from JKIA. This left passengers stranded for several hours," said Agong.
He hower noted that only Jumbo Jet flights were delayed as all other flights were going on as scheduled.
"I want to assure passengers that everything is in order and they should not to worry since the operations are now going on well," noted the MD.
John Kemboi, a passenger who had booked a flight using Jumbo Jet to Nairobi said he had stayed at the Airport for over 5 years.
"Business at the Airport is at standstill, I was supposed to be in Nairobi by 9:00 am and it's now 11:00 am. I am yet to take a flight and I am running late for work,” he lamented.
