ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has conceded defeat in the party's poor outing on Friday after losing two parliamentary seats that it would have otherwise carried easily.
The Orange party lost in Ugenya constituency where David Ochieng' of MDG floored Chris Karan, immediate former MP with a margin of 4,000 votes.
They also went down in Embakasi South constituency where Irshad Sumra failed to recapture the seat from Julius Mawathe.
But a determined Sifuna has since congratulated winners of the two polls which had been projected to go to ODM party. He thanked party members who had turned out in support of their candidate.
"We had a tough day at the ballot. The entire @TheODMparty put in their best effort but we have come up short in both Ugenya and Embakasi South. I thank all those who turned out to support us. Congratulations are in order Hon. Mawathe and @WiperMovement. Godspeed," Sifuna said.
The two losses could be a blow to the Orange party which is trying to revamp.
Ugenya constituency defeat could precipitate party leader Raila Odinga to change strategies in coming days. He only showed up for campaigns once and told locals 'not to embarrass him because he will be busy elsewhere'.
Mr Odinga however, showed up in Embakasi South on Tuesday where he urged residents to vote for Sumra. The two circumstances show how ODM party could move to draw board over the two losses.
David Ochieng', who lost to Karan in 2017, bounced back on the polls, insisting that the will of the people will always carry the day. He had challenged Karan's victory successfully in court.
"The will of the people can never be diverted; their wish will always emerge victorious," Mr Ochieng said.
