Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has now blamed the poor state of affairs at the Kiambu Level Five Hospital and other health facilities on delays by the National Treasury in disbursing funds to the county.
Speaking when he visited Kiambu Level Five Hospital on Wednesday, Waititu said that the county is facing a cash crunch caused by the Treasury delays in disbursing funds.
"It is beyond our working but we want to assure residents that everything will be fixed soon," he said.
Waititu said that the county is yet to purchase medicine for several public health facilities because of the delays by the Treasury to release funds.
The county boss, however, maintained that the influx of patients at the county's public hospitals has contributed to poor service delivery.
"Kiambu Level Five Hospital alone serves over 10,000 people daily and that is why sometimes we run out of crucial resources like medicine," he added.
Waititu's government has been on the spot over reports of patients sharing beds at the county's public health facilities.
There have also been claims of patients being asked to buy medicine from private pharmacies on grounds that the hospitals have run out of medicine.
On Tuesday, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo blamed the health crisis on poor management.
Kabogo said that during his tenure such issues were never experienced, urging Waititu to allocate more funds to the health sector.
