North Eastern Governors have vowed to personally lead the fight against terrorism in the region.
The governors Ali Roba (Mandera ), Ali Korane (Garissa), Ali Mohamud (Marsabit) and Isiolo's Mohamed Kuti say that terrorism is a bigger hindrance to the region's development.
Speaking during an ant-radicalisation conference in Mandera Town on Monday, the governors vowed to spearhead programs that will stop young people from being recruited into terror groups.
The governor said that young people in the region are vulnerable to terror agents.
“We are determined to fight against terrorism because it is the hindrance to our development,” Korane said.
Governor Korane stated that they will support security agencies in hunt for terror agents and sympathizers.
“It is not going to be business as usual and as North Eastern leaders we will be on the frontline in the war against terrorism,” Governor Roba said.
Roba said that he is fearless despite several attempts by Al-shabaab to eliminate him.
“I have been a victim of these attacks and want to make it clear that our resolve to fight them will not stop,” he said.
North Eastern counties especially Mandera and Garissa have in the recent years witnessed deadly Al-shabaab attacks leading to loss of lives.
The national government says that more security personnel will be deployed on the borders to hunt down terrorists and their sympathizers.
