After Deputy President William Ruto's series of rallies across Kisii and Nyamira Counties, Orange Democratic Movement party swiftly responded through various gatherings across the region.
Ruto, who is eyeing over one million votes from the region, visited Nyamira and parts of Kisii this month where he called for unity.
"I have no problem with Agwambo (Raila Odinga). He's my mentor only that we disagreed. It's normal in politics," he told supporters at Kemera.
But over the weekend, ODM troops traversed the vast region with three senior officials leading the onslaught against Ruto.
On Saturday, deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya camped in Nyamira where he dismissed Ruto's influence as 'cheap threats'.
"We are only concerned in strengthening and uniting party members. Those running around should be blocked. They have nothing new for us. When you see them, rebuke them," he said at Damside Hotel.
And on Sunday, party treasurer Timothy Bosire described Ruto's trips as 'sheer desperation' further questioning his tract record.
"I have seen him loitering around in the pretext of launching projects. Funny enough, most of those projects were launched long time ago. Let him stop lying to our people. We are not stupid," Bosire said at Nyansiongo Parish.
Similar remarks were echoed by party Vice Chairperson Janet Ong'era in her Kisii backyard where she warned Kisii leaders against following Ruto 'blindly'.
The ambitious deputy Head of State has visited the vast region a record eleven times in six months, the highest after Western and Coast.
