Politics of gubernatorial succession has started playing part in Machakos County.
It is obvioous that Governor Alfred Mutua is keen in grooming his deputy Francis Maliti to take over the position as he tries his lack for the presidential seat in 2022 polls.
With many unfinished projects which may remain so until 2022, Mutua surely needs a successor who has the same ideologies and plans like him.
Who is best suited if not his close ally and deputy Francis Maliti who has already gone public about his intention to vie for the county's top seat in 2022?
Although the governor hasn’t fronted Maliti to succeed him, he has been seen active while representing the incumbent in various county functions.
On top of it all, he has been seen launching projects contrary to the ex-Deputy Governor Benard Kiala who wasn’t involved in any county function.
It’s no secret that Maliti has won people’s hearts and has high chances of succeeding his boss.
This is due to the fact that most of the Wiper MPs have expressed their intentions to vie for the Machakos gubernatorial seat thereby dividing the party's votes in the region.
However, Machakos residents hold the fate of who will be their next governor in 2022.
