Speaking on Tuesday morning at NTV's AmLive show, Cheruyoit said the IG has not met anything he promised Kenyans during his vetting.

He claimed the police service was turning into the worst institution in the country.

"IG Mutyambai is a total failure to the country. History will judge you extremely harshly," said the vocal senator.

The remarks come as claims of police disrespecting court orders especially on elected leaders continue brewing heated debate in the country.

Cheruiyot further challenged Mutyambai to either work in transforming the police service to be an institution that respects the law and stop brutality meted on Kenyans or vacate office.

The police have been under heavy criticism over alleged continued disregarding institutions of justice especially the courts on matters arrest of suspects.

Of the most recent event, the police have been accused of detaining Nandi Governor Stephen Sang who was arrested on Monday despite restraint orders issued by the Eldoret Court.

The governor was on Tuesday arraigned before a Kisumu court.
