Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko revealed that the current Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Njagua Kanyi famously known as Jaguar started his music career journey by performing at a club he owned wearing slippers.
Speaking on the sidebar show at NTV, the governor mentioned a long list of other artists including Ali Kiba, Ray C, Matonya, Z Anto and Ken Wa Maria who used to perform at his club back then and he used to pay them.
"The likes of Ali Kiba, Ray C, Matonya, Z Anto that sung 'Binti Kiziwi' those years, Ken wa Maria, were playing in my club, even Jaguar alianza akiimba na slippers na microphone moja kwa club yangu(Started to sing in my club wearing slippers and using one microphone) and we used to pay him by then," Governor Sonko said.
That was back then and most of those artists mentioned developed a successful career in music and Jaguar right now is arguably one of the richest artist-cum-politician in the country.
The two, Jaguar and Sonko, have been having a good relationship since back them.
This can be seen in a song titled "Matapeli" in 2012 by Jaguar in which Governor Sonko, by then the Makadara Member of Parliament, was part of the song video.
