Dan Mwai, the man accused to be a hired hitman who shot former Garissa County minister Idriss Mukhtar’s died of hanging.
This is according to a postmortem report released on Monday.
The autopsy was done by government pathologist Dr. Sylvester Maingi.
“The only injuries we found were two ligature marks on the neck, one of them being from his jacket lining, it was 80cm long,” Maingi said.
He added: “The other ligature is of the new packaging bags such as that of the supermarket bags. This was 48cm long and had not made a mark on his neck. We can confirm that David died from a ligature to his neck from the nylon lining of his jacket."
Mwangi was a key suspect in the shooting of the ex-CeC in an incident where a governor has been mentioned as 'a person of interest in the case'.
The death of Mwai raised eyebrows on how a key suspect in such a high profile case could commit suicide in a cell where he was not alone.
The incident also took place during the day.
Crimebusters believed Mwangi was the man captured by a CCTV camera shooting Idriss. They hoped he would have helped unravel those who had paid him to kill the former Garissa County minister.
