Raila Odinga will be ODM presidential candidate in 2022, Senate Minority Leader James Orengo has insisted.
In April, Raila, through his spokesman Dennis Onyango, slammed Orengo's similar rwmarks, which threatened to tear handshake with Uhuru Kenyatta apart.
"The Prime Minister is not interested in running for a political seat. For now, he's busy building bridges across the country," Odinga had said.
Despite his persistent claims that he will not be on ballot, Raila's allies have however put him on pole position as Uhuru's best successor.
In Kakamega on Tuesday, Orengo said the party is revamping to clear stage for Raila presidency.
"We are rebranding our party leader to contest on an ODM ticket in 2022," said Mr Orengo at the burial of the mother-in-law of former Gem MP Joe Donde in Ikolomani.
He added: “Let us have a country that doesn’t care who is Kikuyu, Luo, Kamba, Luhya or Kalenjin."
Further, he said, the law does not bar Mr. Odinga from making his fifth stab at the presidency.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Raila's brother Oburu Oginga, Governor Amoth Rasanga and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
