The former premier said that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) county chief is indeed on medical recovery.

This comes after reports indicating the Governor has been off duty for the last 3 months after undergoing surgery had raised suspicions among residents of the county.

“Governor Awiti has been away but he told me to pass his greetings to you. Do you welcome his regards?” Raila asked the crowd which acknowledged the greetings, reports the Friday Standard

The County boss is said to have undergone an eye surgery and was advised to take a leave before reassuming his roles at the helm of the county.

"I was with him before I came here. He has been unwell but he is now okay," Raila added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata noted that operations have been running smoothly and no vacuum has emanated from the absence.

He said that services have been flowing smoothly as is always the case even during Awiti's absence.

“All departments of the county government have been undertaking their mandate well. Nobody should think of any hitches due to the governor’s absence,” Orata is quoted.

This comes at a time when a lobby group named Bunge La Wenye Nchi has since embarked on collecting signatures to push for the dissolution of the assembly.

They have cited widespread graft and the unending rows between a section of the Members of the County Assmwbkt (MCAs) as the reason behind their push.
