Last week during his father's burial at Tseikuru, President Uhuru Kenyatta hinted possibility of incorporating Kalonzo to government.

“Ndugu yetu Kalonzo hata yeye pia atusaidie kwingine kuleta amani nchi zingine na kufungua biashara za Wakenya nchi za nje. (Even our brother Kalonzo should help to bring the country together and resolve conflicts in other countries, thus opening more trade opportunities for Kenyans),” the President said in Kiswahili.

And with Kalonzo having formally assumed roles as Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission head, State House is reportedly working on modelities to expand his roles beyond South Sudan before formally announcing the latest development.

JMEC was constituted in 2013 to oversee peace process in South Sudan by Inter-Governmental Authority Development (IGAD) and has been under the leadership of former Botswana President Festus Mugae who resigned two months ago.

“The diplomatic role is not limited to mediating peace in Juba,” said the Nation sorce. “It will cover broader issues and will be announced once it is properly defined.” Mr Musyoka replaces former Botswana President Festus Mogae, who stepped down from the helm of JMEC two months ago.https://mobile.nation.co.ke/news/Kalonzo-lands-big-job-as-Uhuru-shares-handshake-goodies/1950946-4850804-w6f8hhz/index.html.

On Monday, Kalonzo accompanied Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma to South Sudan to deliver a congratulatory message to president Salva Kiir on behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta, marking his first assignment as the latest envoy in the country.

His name will be forwarded to IGAD for confirmation and thereafter, Stats House will officially unveiled him to the country through president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Last month, Kalonzo's boss Raila Odinga was also appointed as High Representative for Infrastructural Development by AU, a role he was given after agreeing to work with Uhuru.
