Ruto has been frequenting the region lately, the latest being on Sunday when he attended the homecoming ceremony of Sirisia lawmaker John Waluke.

But some lawmakers from the region are now accusing him of funding such ceremonies in the region with a hidden motive of political mileage.

In a press conference in conference in Kakamega, the team led by Kakamega Senator Cleopa Malala noted that Ruto is the force behind the unending political gatherings in the region.

They bashed Ruto for using the meetings to attack President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader over their apparent closeness.

“DP Ruto has been funding homecoming ceremonies for MPs in Western in his bid to sell himself to the electorate.

"He has also been using such events to attack the President and Raila. His motives are not good. He is an enemy of change," stated Senator Malala.

The Monday press conference also saw other leaders like Busia Woman Representative Florence Mutua nominated lawmaker Geoffrey Osotsi rubbish Ruto's apparent interest in the region ahead of his 2022 presidential bid.

Ruto's trips into the region seem to be paying off. He seems to have won the support of some regional leaders who were initially opposed to him.

They include former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale. Khalwale was once Ruto's top critic but has now turned into his supporter and notable campaigner in the area.

But Ruto has maintained that his visits are solely based on development.
