At least 10,000 public primary and secondary schools will be connected with the internet to boost the much talked digital learning, the Government has directed.Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i announced this on Monday saying the programme would start immediately to enable faster implementation as most schools have already been given the digital equipment. The CS spoke while at a tour of Kakoneni Girls Secondary School where he was inspecting learning activities. He said provision of internet help provide digital data storage facilities. It will also enable faster preparation of lessons both by the learners and teachers. Likewise, it will reduce over dependence on costly hard copies text and exercise books ."Teachers will be able to update and store data in real time and this will promote transparency and accountability," added the CS.CS Matiang'i said all head teachers, deputies and academic heads will be provided with laptops. This will enable them file progress reports to education officials regularly reducing the time gap and transport cost that they use to travel to education offices.In addition to the laptops and internet, teachers are get lockers, desks and cabinets to ensure they work in comfortable settings.
