A three-year-old child has died while three others admitted to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after consuming bad cassava.
The incident happened on Wednesday morning at Suneka area, Kisii County.
Mr Wilfred Makemba, a local said that the four started complaining of stomach aches minutes after they ate the cassavas.
"Members of the family fed on bad boiled cassavas yesterday night and started complaining about stomachaches," he said.
This, he said was what led to the death of one of the kids aged four years old.
Dr Nyamache Nyarang'o, a children specialist at the hospital admitted the receipt of the kids at the hospital saying they were admitted to the emergency wing of the facility.
She said that the cassava contained a poisonous substance known as cyanide in it.
"The cassava seems to have had a poisonous substance called cyanide which led to the death of one of the kids," said Dr Nyamache.
Agricultural experts have also warned that some types of cassavas need to be dried and soaked in water before they are cooked consumption.
