Opposition leader Raila Odinga was on Tuesday given a ‘presidential’ reception when he attended Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s inauguration.
Joho, a staunch supporter and deputy to Odinga was reelected despite serious integrity issues surrounding his social life.
And Odinga ‘stole’ the show when locals labeled him president in solidarity with his petition that is challenging President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reelection.
A number of attendees were seen carrying placards in support of Odinga presidency, a move that may not go down well with Kenyatta and his supporters.
In his speeches, Joho recognized Odinga as People’s president and warned that he may not recognize Uhuru Kenyatta’s reelection should he win in Supreme Court.
Despite making four attempts on presidency, Odinga has failed to win the lucrative seat despite accusing sitting governments of allegedly rigging him out.
The only time he came closer to presidency was in 2007 where he reportedly won despite electoral body ECK announcing President Mwai Kibaki as winner.
He is set to retire from active politics soon following a huge loss to Kenyatta in their second meeting in a major election.
