A 60-year-old woman has been abducted over a simmering land row at Bokeira village, Iyabe, Bonchari constituency.Three days later, shocked relatives and villages interviewed were yet to come to terms with the forceful removal from the home of one of their own.
They claimed the abductors raided Esther Oyugi’s house at night after breaking a window, and dragged her, and possibly bundled her into a vehicle which sped away.A sister in law to the victim, Mama Venicah Sarange claimed she discovered her disappearance when she took milk to her as a regular customer after she had failed to collect it.According to Sarange human footprints, some shoes and vehicle tile marks found in the victim’s compound and footpath leading to the home seemed to vindicate the kidnap."Before the incident, agents of a private developer involved in the land dispute had threatened our family members who then reported them to the local police but no action had been taken," she said.Joseph Onduko, the husband, who works in Nairobi and was absent during the incident, narrated how the row had started early this year prompting the family to demand a resolution.Bishop Robert Nyamwange, a brother to the victim decried, "my sister's land was stormed by goons in broad daylight, massive damage to property and erection of a structure on it with impunity."He challenged the area state security agents to find out where the victim had been taken and retrieve her besides demonstrating that the citizens’ was ensured without discrimination.Grace Nyamwange, the victim’s sister, and resident expressed concern over the emotive land issue in the area jeopardizing their lives and demanded that the culprits be brought to book.Kisii county commissioner, Godrey Kigochi held a security a meeting at the area in which the media was excluded.
