Tough talking, resolute and an astute manager are words that I would use to describe the Education CS Dr Matiangi who also doubles up as the Acting Internal Security CS. Dr. Matiangi has juggled these two ministries adeptly delivering the best of results while at the same times roughing shoulders with those who stood his way.
In his short stint at the Education Ministry, Matiangi has been seen both as a demi-god by most Kenyans and also as a nemesis by teachers who would have loved to goof off in school and still get a paycheck at the end of the month.
Matiangi has finally restored confidence in the examination body that was marred with cartels, cheating and all forms of corruption. He has had examinations conducted in the most credible manner to the satisfaction of those who loved justice. His speed in releasing results is also commendable.
His test of resilience and steadfastness could not have been tested at a better time but 2017 when he had the national examinations to conduct and at the same time act as the Internal Security CS after the sudden demise of the late Major General Nkaissery.
I wish his fellow Cabinet secretaries could borrow a leaf from this man. Rather than solicit for congratulatory messages for the President Elect, Foreign Affairs CS Amina Mohammed should ask Matiangi the secrets that he uses to cook two pots without burning any. ICT CS Joe Mucheru who promised Ajira Digital Jobs but never followed up on the implementation should go to Matiangi's class and learn a few tips here and there.
