A middle-aged man is currently being held at Kerina police station in Kisii South sub-county after being nabbed with fake notes adding up to Sh20,000.
According to the police, the man identified as Richard Kerongosi was arrested by the police after they were given a tip off by some of the business community at Kerina shopping center who had been tricked by him.
Confirming the incident Kisii South OCPD David Mburukua said that in the past one week they had already received reports that there was fake currency being circulated in the area and they were looking for the persons behind that.
He added that the notes were in denominations of one thousand shillings and called upon the residents to remain vigilant over the same.
“We are happy that the community reported to us on time and we were able to arrest the man and we expect him to let us know who they were working with in distributing the money,” said Mburukua.
According to some of the business persons led by Erick Obiri they had fallen into the trap and now they want the government to ensure that such people are arrested and arraigned in court.
The police boss urged the members of the community to ensure they are keen for there might be some fake currency still in circulation.
