We are watching with amusement as some political merchants from Kisii purport to unite the community into one political sack, that they can use as a bargaining tool for political favors. As you cut deals in the corridors of State House we must tell you that this is simply hogwash and it will fall flat on its face.

In the 18th century, the Omogusii unity was absolutely paramount since the community had to stick together in order to ward off incessant aggression, resulting from cattle rustling by hostile neighboring communities.

What do we need tribal unity for in this day and age, when we live in a global village? How can tribal unity make Kenya a better country?

Only political losers like Obure, Onyonka, Maangi talk of tribal unity and tribal coalitions in the 21st-century politics.

This kind of politics will soon become obsolete.

Since the advent of multiparty democracy in Kenya, over 20 years ago, the Kisii and Luhya communities have proved to be way ahead of the rest of Kenyan communities in terms of true democracy. We can not be behind people who have no agenda, other than their big stomachs, just because they are our tribesmen.

This is the reason why Abagusii never blindly rallied behind Simeon Nyachae. He had nothing to offer. It is the same reason why the Luhya nation never blindly rallied behind Musalia Mudavadi. He is another confused loser after he served for a month as Kenya's Vice president in 2002.

The proponents of the Gusii unity agenda, one year to elections, hope to put the community's votes in one basket and dangle it in the face of the government of the day, in order to extract personal political and financial gains. They were in State House for the transaction the other day.

If you want to appeal to the majority youthful Kisii voters, just talk of national unity and how you will create jobs for all Kenyan youth.

Come out strongly against the unending police harassment and killing of young people who dare have different opinion and fight for what is right. Talk strongly against the rampant corruption in both national and county governments. Find a cause that people will identify with.

So long as the cause that you want us to rally behind is centered around your big stomachs and a humongous appetite for government corruption spoils, unity is doomed to fail spectacularly.

Just look at the proponents of this idiotic idea. What do they stand for as leaders in this country? Any history of fighting for the common good?

They should have realised by now that they are dealing with a very informed young electorate that is highly independent minded. The voters are mature enough to make their own choices.

We demand a better Kenya for all of us, and that is how it shall be.
