According to Nandi lawmaker Samson Cherargei, the DP supporters were pushing him to ditch the governing party after realising there were powerful people hellbent to sabotage his bid to succeed Uhuru in 2022.

Speaking to People Daily, the outspoken Senator said plans were in high gear to form a new political party to be used by Ruto in the next election in his ambition to clinch power.

"As friends of William Ruto, we are contemplating the formation of our own party. We are thinking of leaving Jubilee Party to Uhuru and his people," he said.

"We cannot work with saboteurs, we cannot work with those who think they can block DP's 2022 bid. We can't work with our enemies," insisted Cherargei, a proof that rift in the ruling party continues to widen.

His remarks comes amid claims that the defucnt United Republican Party (URP) has been registered afresh with the Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung'u.

However, speaking to the local daily, Ndung'u dismissed the reports saying URP can only be revived after five years but noted her office had issued two parties with provisional certificate of registration.

"We have issued provisional registration certificate to two parties; United Green Party and Grand Dream Development Party in 2018," she said.
