Through their representative Beryl Oino, they say the skills are very important for their survival in and outside the school.

“It is time we focus on life saving skills especially at the wake-up of Alshabaab threats and attacks in the country. We are intellectuals and we should be educated in every aspect of life,” She says.

She says they thought of the idea after a number of students got injured during an explosion of a transformer at Nairobi University Kikuyu Campus where the student thought was a terrorist attack.

“After that incident (Nairobi University) we came up with the society, which consists of eight students who have been trying their best to get the basic skills to manage disasters,” she says.

She says if they had been skilled during the attack at their school, more students would have escaped the menace.

“We would have done better had we been equipped with the necessary skills which include self-defense and safe evacuation. A large number of students where left in confusion which gave the enemy advantage over us during the school attack,” she says.

Sheila Muliro, one of the students says the skills are paramount in everyday life.

“We face different calamities as human beings and knowledge on handling them is the best assert one can be equipped with,” she added.
