Eldoret Resident Magistrate Stella Telewa sentenced Jonathan Komen to 20 years in jail after the prosecution proved its defilement accusations against him.

During the hearing of the case, the court was told that the suspect together with another accused not in court repeatedly defiled a 13-year-old girl day and night at her parents’ house in Annex estate, Eldoret town.

The crime was committed between May 2 and November 18, 2016, while the girls' mother was away at work.

While responding to the charges, the accused told the court that the allegations were orchestrated by the girls' mother in an attempt to cover up unpaid salaries. The accused was a private security guard at the girls home.

In her ruling, the Magistrate said charges against the accused have been proved and backed up with a report from the doctor who examined the girl.

“Evidence presented in court proves that the crime was committed by the accused contrary to Sexual Offences Ac (2006),” said the Magistrate.

“This court, therefore, sentences the accused o 20 years in jail,” she ruled. The accused has 14 days to appeal the ruling.
