Speaking during the 3rd devolution conference Kisii governor James Ongwae said that the committee will manage the funds as one way of improving education sector in the area.

“We are going to have separate committee which will manage bursary funds so that we can improve the education sector in our county,” said Ongwae.

In addition, he challenged members of county assembly to make sure that the venerable students are the only ones who benefit from the funds.

“This fund is set aside to benefit students from poor and venerable families so we should make sure they are the ones who benefit," said Ongwae.

He added that the county government has increased the amount to Sh5 million as it is on with the process of increasing it to Sh7 million to cater for all needy students across the county.

“ The funds has been gradually increasing from 3 million to 5 million we want to increase the amount to 7 million per ward so that we can help all needy students in this county," added Governor Ongwae.
