The Labour Party of Kenya (LPK) leader Ababu Namwamba has asked the ODM party leader and Cord co-principal Raila Odinga to shelve his presidential ambitions and support a Luhya candidate for president.

The Budalang'i member of Parliament said the community has supported the former Prime Minister for long and now it is his turn to back one of their own. 

"We the Luhya community will not support Raila because we have supported him before and he failed to clinch the seat its now his turn to support a Luhya candidate," said the lawmaker as quoted by the Star.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, Amani National Coalition leader Musalia Mudavadi and former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, all from the Luhya community have expressed interest in the presidency. 

The former ODM secretary general also noted that LPK will not dissolve to join Jubilee Party but will commit themselves to three Luhya presidential hopefuls. 

"We have three Luhya presidential hopefuls in the coming polls.We will decide who to support before the elections," noted Ababu during a rally in Webuye on Saturday. 

He was accompanied by other LPK officials among them deputy party leader Esther Kondo, chairperson Julia Ojiambo, secretary general David Makali, organising secretary Peter ole Musei and among others. 

Ababu also said LPK will field candidates for all the seats from the ward rep to the governor in the 2017 polls.
