Former Budalang'i MP Ababu Namwamba has defended Jubilee MPs following their move to pass the bill to amend election laws.
On Thursday, the Senate passed the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill after it received the controversial piece of legislation from the National Assembly where it had been agreed upon and approved.
However, Opposition legislators kept off the whole process, terming the amendments unconstitutional.
Namwamba has defended the changes saying they target to cure mischiefs that led to the nullification of the presidential election by the Supreme Court.
"The laws are good for the country as they will make election officials accountable. Jubilee is targeting to address the irregularities and illegalities committed so that we do not have a repeat poll that will be conducted in the same manner," said Namwamba.
The former MP also backed the legislation seeking to address the quorum in the top court needed to annul the presidential election.
"The amendments also focus on the number of judges who should make a decision of nullifying an election to be two-thirds because to make serious laws in the country we need two-thirds in the National Assembly why should it not happen also in the judiciary?" he asked.
