Addressing journalists in Mombasa, Joho who is also the ODM deputy party leader, took issue with Ababu’s failure to participate in crucial matters pertaining to the party, citing the recent push for reforms in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The governor further asked Ababu not to hold the party at ransom.

"Ababu may be searching for an exit strategy by smearing the party. He should not hold our party at ransom because he has been missing in crucial party initiatives,” said Joho.

Joho called on Ababu to forget the chaos that rocked the ODM nominations in Kasarani, adding that the party had resolved the issues and instituted new offices, including the position of secretary general.
