Former Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba has relinquished his position as the Labor Party leader.
Namwamba said he did so due to his appointment as the Chief Administrative Secretary in Foreign Affairs Ministry by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I applaud President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing me to this position, I therefore, will not continue serving as the party leader since I have now been given the mandate to serve the nation and not the party,” Namwamba said.
He spoke during a Labor Party meeting in Eldoret on Saturday.
“I have so much faith that the party will get my replacement since it has competent leaders who are up to the task, as I hang my boots I will continue being a member of the labor party. I will help the elected leaders to take the party to the next level,” Namwamba added.
Namwamba, however, called on the opposition leaders to stop politics and concentrate in development.
He said the country should stop putting the country in an electioneering mood.
“There is time for everything and political season is now behind our back, we should concentrate on how to make our people's lives better since they cannot feed on politics. Let's deliver first as we wait for 2022,” Namwamba said.
