Ruto is expected to officially dissolve the party by merging it with TNA and a host of other parties to form the Jubilee Alliance Party which President Uhuru Kenyatta will use for his  2017 re-election bid.

But now MCA Ken Atuti wants Ruto to combine forces with Ababu to form a formidable force for the 2017 polls.

“Politics is all about playing smart. I don’t see the reason why URP should be dissolved because that is the only vehicle which can make the DP have a major political turning point in his life,” he said.

“He should drop the idea of joining JAP and build structures for our party. We did well in the last general election and we can do better if he forms a coalition with Ababu as his deputy and run against the President and Raila Odinga,” he said, adding that Ababu's influence in the Western region was remarkable.

He said the Budalang'i MP’s western Kenya influence could bring more support and also help from other marginalised regions.

“Ababu can deliver the western votes and the Rift Valley voting bloc will also be attained easily. Ruto is also popular among the marginalised groups. This is a reality and I hope he can capitalise on it rather than waiting for 2022,” he said.
