The former Budalang'i MP who was appointed CAS by President Uhuru Kenyatta recently said the position has huge responsibilities and there is no way therefore, he can operate without an office.

"That's not true, that Ababu is operating with no office?" he told Taifa Leo, a Swahili newspaper managed by Nation Media Group.

"My position new, it has enormous responsibilities and therefore I cannot operate in the air."

The CAS position is equivalent to the Assistant Minster position that was scrapped off with the promulgation of the Constitution in August 2010.

There has been constant criticism from across the political divide on why Uhuru created the position well knowing that Cabinet Secretaries comfortably worked without assistants for five years since 2013.

Ababu held his first event as Chief Assistant Secretary on March 6 when he presided over the opening of the first ever Kenya-Uganda Cross Border Investment and Trade Expo organised by the Uganda High Commission in Eldoret.

He was also among high ranking government officials who received US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport when he arrived in the country on March 9.
