The Luhya community should ditch the opposition and join the ruling Jubilee administration if it wants to benefit from development projects, two leaders from Western Kenya have said.
According to Water and Irrigation CS Eugene Wamalwa and Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba, Western Kenya residents have missed many opportunities to enjoy government projects because of supporting political leaders in the opposition.
The two leaders asked the Luhya community to back President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto in their re-election bid so that they be considered when the national cake is being shared.
“This election is not just about Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta or NASA and Jubilee, but the future of the Luhya nation,” said Wamalwa.
Ababu said it is only Jubilee would bring real transformation for the people and the Western region saying the National Super Alliance (NASA) led by Raila Odinga had always shortchanged them.
“Where Eugene and I are is where the future of this region is. That other option being dangled represents unfulfilled promises, journeys that can never be, being used and even being sold,” the Labour Party of Kenya leader was quoted by the Star.
The leaders criticised Raila for ‘misusing’ leaders from the community, Moses Wetang’ula and Musalia Mudavadi, for personal gain.
“He uses Mudavadi and Wetang’ula as a ladder to ascend to power. Finally, our brothers will be left with nothing,” remarked the CS.
The two leaders were speaking during a campaign rally in Funyula, Busia County over the weekend.
