A tectonic political movement is in the offing in Western Kenya as leaders from the region plan to handle their own Third Force possibility for President.
The area had been viewed as a 'safe' ODM zone, yet this broad political realignment could shake the previous Prime Minister's single biggest vote alliance.
A section of legislators from the region calling itself The Third Force has entered the brawl, requiring every political leader from the bigger Luyha community to rally behind one applicant in 2017 who would go up against President Uhuru Kenyatta and Cord pioneer Raila Odinga.
Led by former ODM secretary General Ababu Namwamba in conjunction with Sirisia Member of Parliament John Walukhe, the group of MPs has been in talk with former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula and ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi with the sole aim of establishing a common ground that could forge for an alliance ahead of the General elections.
All the three leaders are interested in running for presidency but with the formation of an alliance, the Mulembe Nation will then agree and field one of them as the sole flag bearer for the region.
The assembly is likewise connecting with Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli, who is driving a parallel force to join Luyha pioneers and fashion a typical plan. The point is to bring Atwoli's supporters into the Third Force force and forge a stronger Coalition.
“We as the Western Kenya leaders, and the whole Mulembe nation for that matter must be on the ballot in 2017, there is no doubt about it,” Ababu said.
