The Abagusii council of elders in Kisii county has asked the national Government to release funds to counties so that they can go on with their development projects.

They said that the projects had stalled since the National Government stopped sending development funds to counties.

Mr Edwin Gichana, a clerk in the Abagusii council of elders offices, also asked opposition leaders to calm down saying that the current political temperatures were part of the reasons development money was not being wired to counties.

"The national government should not politicize our culture and should ensure that we start receiving the funds meant for our projects," he said.

Lack of funds in many counties has disabled several projects, that were put on the calendar of events for 2017/2018 financial year.

They include the construction of a museum to showcase the Abagusii traditional artifacts and also introduce a peace and conflict degree course in Kisii University.

The council of elders was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta on 9th June 2014 to embrace the Gusii culture in Kisii and Nyamira counties.
