A section of Kiang'ombe residents have complained of what they have said is increase in crime which they are partly attributing to abandoned and unfinished constructions in the estate.
Speaking on Monday during a local Nyumba Kumi meeting, the residents said that the abandoned constructions are being used by criminals to hide stolen properties, waylay residents as well as smuggle drugs.
"These buildings are not doing us any good because we have realised that a lot of crime is happening inside there. Just last week we recovered electronics from one of those abandoned houses stolen from a resident's house. Also, on different occasions some residents have reported to us that they were waylaid there and their valuables stolen," Peter Kamau, the area Nyumba Kumi Chairman said.
Kamau added that bhang sellers have also been using the buildings to hide there as they smuggle the drugs even to school going children. They are now calling for owners of such buildings to be asked to fence them completely for criminals to stop using them as hideouts.
"When they are completely enclosed, it will be hard for thugs to gain entry and continue with their criminal activities. We therefore urge the local administration to ask these owners to do the necessary before things turn to worst," said Kamau.
