The locals said the donkey was abandoned by the owners who were on their way to Sondu.

"The owners of the donkey abandoned it on the road after it got tired and was unable to carry luggage. They offloaded the luggage and left the donkey lying on the road,” said Rhoda Ondigo, a resident.

She said residents alerted the area Nyumba Kumi officials who arrived at the scene and found the donkey dead.

“Locals alerted us and immediately we responded and when we arrived at the scene where the donkey was lying, we found it dead as the owners were no where to be seen,” said Charles Osore, a Nyumba Kumi official.

Osore urged farmers owning donkeys in the area to stop overworking the donkeys and ensure they are vaccinated against diseases because the donkey might have succumbed due to lack of food, being over worked or sick.

The official added that they are yet to identify a place where donkey will be buried because residents have refused to take the donkey for burial at their farms.
