Rigena residents now wants authorities to demolish an abandoned house that has allegedly been harbouring criminals who have made life inhabitable in the area.
Speaking to HiviSasa.com on Tuesday, they claimed that armed gangs have been using the house to plan and execute criminal activities in the region for over a month now.
According to them, the owner of the house, Bernard Moriasi, and the family had relocated to North Rift in Kitale for over a year now, and since them, the suspected thugs have been using it as their centre for coordination.
“This house has been hosting armed criminals who have been antagonising us for the last one month. They have used it as place to coordinate and execute their criminal activities against us,” said Peter Ogwoka.
“We understand that the owner is not around since he relocated to Kitale for a year now. Unfortunately, they have taken advantage of weak door to break in secretly as use the house as a holding hub,” added Moses Juma.
They asked the government to help them demolish the house if the owner failed to do so within two weeks.
“For the sake of our security, we have notified the owner to demolish the house or assign someone else to use it before two weeks. If he doesn’t comply, we would like to request the government to help us demolish the house,” Mr Juma added.
The armed gang has allegedly dispossessed area residents’ property worth thousands of shillings besides injuring a number of them.
