A section of Kiambu politicians and locals have urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to visit the county
The locals say that President Kenyatta has not made a major visit in the county since being elected in 2013.
According to the politicians and locals, they are missing the President and want him to pay them a visit before the 2017 general elections.
The locals say they feel neglected and abandoned by the President.
“We feel abandoned by the President and want to kindly ask him to visit us,” said Faith Maina, a Kiambu resident.
Speaking at Ndumberi grounds during the Jamhuri day celebrations on Monday, Maina claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta has visited all other counties in Mt Kenya but sidelined Kiambu.
“This is the President’s home county and he should visit us because we miss to see him here,” said Silas Njuguna a resident.
Speaking during the Jamhuri day celebrations, Kiambu county Assembly speaker Gathii Irungu urged the President to visit the county.
He said that locals are missing to see him visit Kiambu.
The speaker refuted claims being speculated that locals are angry with the President for not visiting the area.
County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga assured locals that the President will soon tour the county.
President Kenyatta has not made a major tour of the county since being elected in 2013. The president did not visit Kiambu during a tour of Mt Kenya three weeks ago.
The failure by the President to tour Kiambu has been blamed on wrangles pitting some county politicians.
Last year President Kenyatta revealed that he was not visiting Kiambu because of the wrangles between Governor William Kabogo and Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu.
President Kenyatta said that he will be very happy to get an invite from Kabogo and Waititu for a rally in Kiambu adding that locals are suffering by politician’s wrangles.
Governor Kabogo and Waititu plus other politicians opposed to Kabogo’s administration have been engaging in wrangles and political standoff which analysts say has kept President Kenyatta off.
“Kiambu is the home turf of Uhuru and he feels annoyed when its leaders fight and engage in endless wrangles,” said Peter Ngure a political analyst.
The analyst says that President Kenyatta’s move to keep off Kiambu could cause voter apathy in the county ahead of the 2017 polls.
“Locals might feel abandoned by Uhuru‘s move to keep off the county and this could affect his re-election bid in 2017,” he observed.
