Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Hassan Abdi has accused some of the National Cereals and Produce Board staff of collaborating with businessmen to steal and sell subsidised fertiliser to farmers at a higher price.

"We have arrested 26 suspects who are involved in the scam of selling the government's subsidised fertiliser and they will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed, " said Abdi. 

Incidents of the government's subsidised fertiliser going missing from the NCPB depots have been on the rise in the recent past, and Abdi said all those involved will face the full force of the law.

The commissioner who spoke Wednesday during Madaraka Day celebrations at 64 stadium in Eldoret also decried the rising insecurity in the region

He said his officers are working round the clock to ensure security is restored.at the same time decried the rising insecurity in the region.

Abdi said there is an increase in cases of burglaries and people being attacked and mugged on their way home.

"Insecurity has been a threat in Kamukunji, Mwanzo, Tairi Mbili, Tel Aviv and Kapsoya estates, "he said. 

"I am warning all  gangsters who steal and terrorise wananchi that their days are numbered, as the county commissioner I will not allow it to happen while I keep mum. They should look for alternative jobs," he said.

 He added that the law banning boda boda operators from operating after 11pm is still in force.

" It is sad that there are some boda boda operators who are operating till midnight posing a security threat," said Abdi adding that some abet crime by transporting criminals after they have committed a crime.
