[Governor Abdullahi when he addressed the County Assembly.] (the-star.co.ke)Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has denied claims that he is behind gubernatorial aspirant Mohamed Abdi’s woes.
Abdi is currently being investigated over claims he holds a fake degree certificate from Kampala University.
Abdullahi, who addressed the press said he would not stoop too low to fight an opponent he is confident he will floor during the August election. He said he was busy campaigning.
A voter from Wajir, Abdirahman Abdille last week petitioned the IEBC calling for the nullification of Abdi’s gubernatorial candidature because he lacks the required qualification. Abdi is challenging Abdullahi (ODM) on a Jubilee ticket.
“I have not and will never be part of such smear campaign tactics,” the governor said. “I want people to know that I cannot do such a thing to my brother Mohamed Abdi. I have no control over institutions that issue academic certificates.”
Abdille denies calling for the nullification of Abdi’s candidature at a press conference in Nairobi early June. He also disowned an affidavit filed at a Ugandan court saying his signature was forged.
Four MPs allied to Abdi accuse Abdullahi of orchestrating the case against the Jubilee candidate.
Mohamed Ibrahim Elmi (Wajir East), Aden Keynan (Eldas), Mohamed Elmi Fai of Tarbaj, and Ibrahim Saney of Wajir North claim the county chief has resorted to tarnishing his competitors’ names after sensing defeat.
In the affidavit, Abdille claimed that Kampala University had not awarded Abdi a degree in business administration in 2012.
