It has emerged that the dominant Abdwak clan of Garissa County has endorsed an unqualified female aspirant to battle the incumbent Hassan Shukri for the position of Women representative in the 2017 elections.
According to a news article published in a local Garissa news website, the fronted politician lacks the necessary academic qualifications to hold the position.
The report alleged that Anab Subow Mohamed who did her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations in the year 2001scored a mean grade of D- and does not have any other academic or professional certificate.
Lady Anab was endorsed by her clansmen after the the elders unanimously reserved for Rer Harun sub-clan of the dominant Abdwak in a most recent community driven primaries under the 'Junta' group of elders.
Jawahir Keynan Hassan who was Anab's biggest competitor was left out despite her strong academic background. However, Jawahir Keynan has already indicated that she will move on with her political bid, promising to battle out the clan endorsement in the ballot.
What still remains unclear is whether Anab was picked because of her alleged closeness to the elders chair or due to the community’s desire to relinquish the women rep position in exchange for a better coalition agreement with smaller clans.
