Did you think when you saw that word Abortion? Do you feel anything at all? It is such a powerful word, and people react to it in so many ways. Some get angry, but not always for the same reason.
It makes some people sad, and indeed many are heartbroken over it. Abortion also provides mighty motivation as can be seen in the numerous prayer vigils, picketing, petitions, elections, court cases, and so forth that focus on this one subject.
However, let us leave all of that aside and look at abortion itself. What is it really? What is it fundamentally? In other words, what does society think about abortion?
Observe that John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Ghost while still in his mother's womb! In Luke 1:41-44 is the passage describing when Mary, the mother of our Lord, went to see Elisabeth when she was still pregnant with John the Baptist.
John the Baptist, though still unborn, leaped for joy in his mother's womb when he heard the voice of Mary! The unborn can be filled with the Holy Spirit and experience joy.
Although no two women are the same and will experience things differently, it is common for women to suffer side effects from abortion. Abortion is an emotional topic across society.
The post-abortion effects vary from woman to woman. Feelings of sadness, stress, regret, guilt, despair and emotional pain are all common. If deep, negative feelings continue to grow, they can develop into what is known as Post Abortion Syndrome. Symptoms can include social and relational breakdowns, sexual dysfunction, loss of self-esteem, anxiety attacks, and can even lead to the abuse of alcohol or drugs.z
