University students from Moi University, Eldoret town on Friday blamed the ministry of Education for the rampant abortion cases in the institution following the ongoing lecturers' strike.
According to the student's leader in charge of the Health Department Ryan Wandia, cases of abortion and even drug abuse are currently being witnessed in the institution as students are idle.
"I am to address the grievances because as the Health director I am concerned in my docket. You look at the cases of abortion in Moi university every weekend we are finding a new fetus thrown down the stairs," said Wandia.
"Abortion is increasing, why is abortion increasing? Abortion is increasing because people are idle. We are not engaging them, they are engaging in sexual activities. If you go to pharmacists they will tell you the most selling drag is p2 which means they are engaging in a lot of sex," added the Health student director, Moi University.
Speaking from Eldoret town, where the students were demonstrating, Wandia called on the Cabinet Secretary of Education, Amina Mohamed, to address their issue because they feel they are being unfairly treated.
"We want to tell cabinet secretary to come to our level, we know you studied abroad. We are studying in public universities and there is unfair treatment," he added.
"In that case also, I am crying because of my fellow sisters they are being misused because they have nothing to do. What they can do is go to their boyfriends' house," said another female student.
Th students have not received any lectures for the past 38 days when the don's strike took off. The lecturers have been pushing for a counteroffer from the government which has not been forthcoming. However, they have since vowed to continue with their strike until their demands are met.
