The debate over who will be Cord's presidential flag bearer has taken a new twist after a Nyamira MCA claimed that the coalition would lose should Raila Odinga’s name miss out on the ballot.
Cord co-principals Moses Wetangula, Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila have all expressed interest in the Cord ticket with pressure mounting on the latter to support an alternative candidate.
But Bogichora ward representative Beuttah Omanga believes supporting an alternative candidate would disillusion Raila’s diehards and lead to subsequent Jubilee victory.
“You don’t have to study rocket science to know the worthy competitor against Jubilee in the 2017 elections. Cord members should open their eyes and see the implications of Raila supporting an alternative candidate,” he said.
“The move will give Jubilee an early celebration since most opposition supporters are allied to Raila and may opt not to vote for the new candidate. That is a guarantee and we must take it into consideration,” added the former Nyamira County assembly majority leader.
He also slammed Kalonzo and Wetangula of allegedly being out of action and insisted Raila should try his luck for the penultimate time.
“If you say that Raila should not contest then I wonder which people want to contest. The two other co-principals are always missing in action and have never shown the urge and zeal to win an election. They cannot ride on the fame of someone who has always worked hard,” he said.
