Those neglecting their children below 18 years without being aware of where they are this festive season will as well be apprehended and taken to court.

Thika West Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru said this on Monday at his office after a rise in crimes involving children in Thika town.

The DCC warned the parents who have the tender of not being aware of the whereabouts of the children who are being apprehended in Thika night clubs involving in heinous behaviour.

“Parents whose children are being apprehended in night clubs indulging in drug and substance abuse will be prosecuted together with their children,” warned the DCC.

Gicheru cited the previous scenario where two sisters were neglected in the house by their parents and burnt beyond recognition in Thika town a few weeks ago.

“Those children who died in the fire attack if only the parent was at home that night the incident would not have occurred,” said Gicheru

He warned parents who don’t take their children to school in reasons that are not valid saying it increases crime and drug abuse in the area.

This comes after Community Policing chairman Mr. Paul Njomo conducted a survey in Kiandutu slums and realised that many children drop out of school due to unknown reason while others are completely never taken to school by their guardians.

Gicheru has fired warning to parents that his officers will be vigilant to tame insecurity which are as a result of parental negligence and school drop outs that terrorizes residents in the Thika estates.
