Kilifi Women Representative Aisha Jumwa who edged out Willy Mtengo for the ODM ticket in the race for the Malindi parliamentary seat has told off her rival over rigging claims.
According to the results, Jumwa garnered 8,436 votes against Mtengo's 3,758. However, Mtengo who is the incumbent MP, has dismissed the results claiming that the nomination exercise was marred with irregularities which compromised the integrity of the whole process.Mtengo has since vowed to contest as an independent candidate or support Jumwa's rival- Philip Charo of Jubilee. But in a quick re-battle, Jumwa who was addressing hundreds of her supporters on Sunday dismissed Mtengo's claims, saying that hers was a deserved win as she had traversed the constituency to woo voters to support her bid.Jumwa who carried spirited campaigns for Mtengo during the 2016 by-elections said there is no way her rival was going to trounce her as he has no clout in the area politics. She added that Mtengo who succeeded Dan Kazungu as area MP only won the subsequent by-election because of the effort of ODM leadership including Raila Odinga who himself camped in the area drumming up support for him. While dismissing the impact of Mtengo's exit from ODM, Jumwa said his move will never affect the popularity of ODM in the region.
