An accident along the Kericho-Kisumu Highway has left ten people dead and several injured after a matatu collided with a lorry near Kericho town. According to Kericho police boss Justus Kitetu, eight people died instantly and two others died later while receiving treatment.

He said their bodies have been transferred to Kericho level four hospital mortuary, while those who survived the accident are in critical condition.

Those who witnessed the accident claim the lorry driver lost control of the motor vehicle. The trailer of the lorry disconnected right before colliding head on with the matatu.

Former roads minister Franklin Bett showed up to the scene and shared his sympathy for the victims of the accident. "I am told the lorry driver learnt of the brake failure several kilometers away but continued driving. The behavior in our roads is very wanting," said Bett as reported by The Star.

"Vehicle owners should be responsible in maintaining them while drivers should not overwork for more than eight hours," Bett stated.
